Praising God for His Timing!

(Left to right: Anna, age 16, orginally from Kazakhstan; Naomi, age 17, originally from Vietnam; Kathryn, age 18, originally from China)

I was in tears this afternoon when I got the news from our mechanic. Just as Naomi and Kathryn got home from a sleepover, having dropped Anna off to babysit, Naomi ran into the house, eyes wide with fear and words coming faster than she could seem to think, “Mom! I just took the keys out of the van and then gas went everywhere!” She was panicked, so we hurried outside to see what had happened. It was not gas, but rather radiator fluid that had “gone everywhere”, and she was quite right. What was apparently the entire contents of the radiator ran across our driveway, as steam came from under the hood of the van. We assured her that she had not done anything wrong, and that it was probably a hose that had busted, but we were thankful that they had made it home before it happened. Little did we know…
I called AAA and had the van towed to the shop we use and the mechanic just called to tell me the news. He said, “I have never seen anything like that – your radiator basically exploded!” It hit me like a ton of bricks that the girls had just driven about 20 miles, including some on the highway at 70 mph, but God was so good to not let this happen until they drove into the driveway!! If this had happened on the highway at top speed, there is little hope that they would not have had a devastating accident. Even on city streets, the danger was many times what it had been as she drove into our own driveway.

The same God who brought these three girls to us from the far reaches of the world, all via devastating first adoptions, protected them as they drove the twenty miles home today. We are so thankful that they made it safely and that we were able to witness God’s perfect timing in their lives. What a wonderful testimony to His grace this is, in all of our lives! To Him be the glory, great things He has done!!

  1. Psalm 91
Verse 11 is one of my favorites!
“He will send His angels charge over you to guard you in all your ways.”

  2. I had chill-bumps reading this! What a precious story of God’s protection! BTW, I enjoyed reading through your site and seeing your perspective on adopting older children from other countries! What a beautiful picture of the Father’s love!
