Servanthood, Cont’d.

As Christians, we are called to serve as Christ served;

For to this you were called, because Chist also suffered  for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps.  I Peter 2:21

Isaiah prophesied in the Old Testament what the nature of Christ was to be;

Behold!  My Servant who I uphold, My elect One in whom My soul delights!  I have put My Spirit upon Him;  He will bring forth justice to the Gentiles.  He will not cry out, nor raise His voice, nor cause His voice to be heard in the street.  A bruised reed He will not break, and smoking flax He will not quench;  He will bring forth justice for truth.  He will not fail or be discouraged, till He has established justince in the earth; and the coastlands shall wait for His law.

The notes on this passage in my Bible state, “The quiet and submissive demeanor of Christ at His first advent fulfilled this prophecy…The Servant will bring comfort and encouragement to the weak and oppressed.”

If indeed we are to “follow in His steps”, our model is set before us.  Rather than taking offense, fighting for our own “rights”, expecting the world to revolve around our desires, and demanding that things go according to our plans, we should step back and look at the example Christ set for us – one of humility, meekness, and servanthood.  One that we falter in following each day, but there is none more worthy of our emulation than our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

A good friend has a saying which “says it all” to me,

Just two choices on the shelf

Choosing God

Or

Choosing Self
